A great way to reconnect with your love for life.

Updated: Oct 8, 2021

Do you ever feel like you’ve lost your zest for life? Sometimes things can feel monotonous: work, home, eat, sleep…repeat.

One problem people can have is…what do I even LIKE anymore? Either life is too busy or maybe you’ve been feeling depressed or anxious and have just lost touch with the things that bring you joy.

My favourite way reconnects with joy is to think….what did I used to love to do when I was 10? It’s a magical age where you’re old enough to know what you love, but the drama of the teenage years and the burden of life often hasn’t begun.

I was lucky to grow up on a farm with lots of freedom and space to do what I wanted. When I was 10, I LOVED to play outside for hours, making forts, riding motorbikes, chasing bunnies with butterfly nets and puttering in the garden. I also loved school, reading and writing and my best friend and I played school and library for hours together (shout out to Janaya!). I used to reflect on the meaning of life and wrote hilarious things about that in my journals (I was trying to be serious at the time but it’s so funny now).

I would still do all of those things!

I really have chosen a profession that includes a lot of teaching, reading and writing. I love to garden, be outside, ride an ATV around my family farm. I love to write this blog, which is very similar to what I used to do when I was a kid. I even tried to get my daughter to chase a bunny with a net last summer.

Can you think about what you used to love at 10?

If you can’t remember, ask your parents, siblings or friends. Look through old journals or moments.

It’s really worth the time spent.

I’d love to hear what you’d like to reconnect within the comments below!
